About Me
I'm Parvathi Halliyur
I am Parvathi, a student advocate and aspiring physician driven by a singular goal: eliminating healthcare disparities.
My journey began in the operating rooms of Sankara Eye Hospital and the rural clinics of Sherman, Texas. Witnessing the isolation of rural patients—where the nearest specialist is often hours away—inspired me to launch The Sight Gap.
Combining my background in clinical shadowing, DECA leadership, and medical research, I work to ensure that distance is never a barrier to sight.

My Mission
My goal is providing free vision screenings and health education to rural "healthcare deserts."
I believe access to quality eye care should never be determined by a zip code.
Research on CRISPR and Stem cell technology in Familial Alzheimer's
Under the mentorship of Dr. Jobin Varkey at USC, I am exploring how CRISPR-Cas9 can be used to correct genetic mutations in stem-cell-derived neurons from patients with Familial Alzheimer’s. My work focuses on the molecular triggers of protein misfolding, seeking to turn cutting-edge gene editing into a viable roadmap for future neuro-regenerative therapies.

Coordinating local service projects and mobilizing student volunteers for community health initiatives.

Leveraging entrepreneurial experience to manage the logistics and funding of a registered LLC.
Activities
Clinical Shadowing
100+ hours observing ICU and surgical procedures at Texoma Hospital and Sankara Eye Hospital.
Sankara Eye Foundation Internship
Direct patient care experience, assisting in screenings for 200+ rural patients in India.
Speech and Debate
Competed at local tournaments in Domestic Extemp. Top performing competitor in Domestic Extemp at my school.
